I'm with Diane Wiessinger on the problems with C hold. I have never heard a
better analogy than Diane's description of taking a bite out of a Big Mac.
I often tell moms to not lift the breast at all, just lower baby to
whereever nipple "hangs naturally." Then I show her how to just gather up a
bit of breast between thumb and forefinger on upper side of breast to plane
the breast so it thins it a bit to fit from one corner of baby's mouth to
the other. As soon as baby has the latch, let go. If breast is weighty, a
bit of a rolled cloth wedge can be tucked under breast for a bit of support.
If baby is weak and needs help milking the breast, the same move a bit
further back on the breast can be used to do breast compression.

Diane, I love the way you use language!
Barbara
