I saw a mom and baby this AM who had been referred to me last week for slow
weight gain, decreased milk supply and fussiness. I did three phone consults
with her and with following my advice, the baby gained about 11 oz over a
week. As I observed her nurse and talked with her today, she said that I made
so much sense, why didn't she call me when the baby was born, why didn't the
hospital hire me, etc etc. She then reached around and picked up a copy of
THAT book
( Babywise) and said she was going to just throw that away! Turns out she had
been adviced by a neighbor to follow this method and had been following it.
Thank goodness she called me when she did because what if she had continued
to try to follow that schedule with the slow weight gain and decreased milk
it could have been trouble.
My next consult was with a baby who has been getting EBM in a bottle and is
now 3 and 1/2 months old. He has never nursed. after a few attempts and some
tongue thrushing he latched on like a champ and did great on the breast with
a thin nipple shield and then toward the end of the feeding he went to the
breast with no shield. I was so proud of him! Mom said she had never seen him
so satisfied and happy!
I'm batting .1000 today! Until the next phone call!
