I am working with a mother who had extensive surgery on both breasts when she
was 4 wks. pregnant with her second child. She nursed her first child
successfully. The surgery was to remove a benign, large tumor from her left
breast. At the same time, she also had surgery on the right to make the two
approximately equal in size. Surgeon has told her that over 50% of the ducts
were cut. I should add that while she attempted to tell them over and over
that she was pregnant before the surgery, all the tests came up negative so
they proceeded with surgery.

Second baby is now 6 weeks old, and is so far (knock on wood) gaining well on
mother's milk alone. She has recently begun to have a very sore nipple on the
left side (side with tumor), no sx of thrush in her or baby, no soreness on
right. Left areola has a large ridge of scar tissue that is not soft like the
rest of the nipple tissue. The baby seems to not latch on well on that side --
because of scar tissue??

Any others have experience with this?
