Hello! I have been unsuccessfully trying to find information for client of mine.
She had a baby 4 mos ago and is currently hospitalized with pylonephritis
(kidney infection). She has been on antibiotics for a couple of days that
apparently were not working as they now have her on a new med (levoquin).
She also has now been diagnosed with sepsis! They found her blood cultures
to be positive with EColi! Mom has been pumping and dumping as much as she
can which is quite a feat as she feels miserable. (She began pumping and
dumping initially because of having tests run with incompatible dyes.) Baby
has not been around mom nor nursing since this started. Obviously mom's
health is a priority here but what about breastfeeding? She is keeping her
supply up (we do not need to add mastisis to her list of worries!) but wants to
continue nursing. I have been to every website and book that I can think of
for a reference but cannot seem to find anything on this particular subject.
Does anyone out there have ANY further suggestions or experiences that they
can share concerning moms with sepsis? I have been searching Le Leche,
Thomas Hale, Jack Newman, Kelly Mom, Breastfeeding coalition, and numerous
other lactation consultants. Please respond if you have encountered this
before and can help me to guide our girl in the right direction. Thanks. Jackie
