I have accidentally deleted the original message regarding the midwife who
had an emergency c-sec at 34 weeks and is having trouble getting support
for breastfeeding and kangaroo care. There is a lot of literature out
there on kangaroo care, many articles and a couple of books. If youwant
to e-mail me privatley, I will give you some of the references.
If anecdotal suport is helpful, I had a 2 kilo (4.5 lb) 34 week baby not too
long ago (he is now 21 months old) although it was not a c-sec. I also
had a 2 kilo 40 week baby who is now almost 8. We did kangaroo care
and breastfeeding for both of them. They were born in different
hospitals on different continents and staff support for our "parenting
sytle"ranged from barely tolerant to supportive. This is probably not
the place to go into details, but I will be happy to offer whatever moral
support I can if the LC or the new Mom want to contact me "off-line"
Having a baby in a NICU is a very difficult time. I wish the new
family and all others in this situation only the best. Get as much
help, support as you can from whatever corners you can find it. friends,
family, medical practitioners, those who have been through it.
  Good luck,
   Naomi Bar-Yam
