I just wanted to give encouragement to all of those who are frustrated with
hospital staff who are so ignorant about breastfeeding. I too was very
ignorant, though I thought I new something. It wasn't until I took a
Lactation Education Training Course through a university extension program
that I realized how ignorant I really was! Unfortunately, the hospital I
worked at was not willing to pay for the course for those who were motivated
to take it, and it was very expensive. Breastfeeding inservices should
DEFINITELY be mandatory, and for ALL medical staff, not just nurses. My
husband doesn't remember any questions on the Pediatric Medical Boards that he
took a few years ago (USA). That is utterly pathetic! No doubt the result of
formula companies pouring big dollars into medical residency programs (nursing
programs as well). Keep up the good work and fight the good fight. You in
the trenches are important. I share all of the wonderful information I learn
here with my dh, who also will do anything when baby is at the breast! Oh,
and how do we get Dr. Hale's drug book?
