Judith,I attended the Preemie For a Day program a few months ago. Our NICU staff mostly attended as well as some ancillary staff. It mostly dealt with how to stabilize the environment of the preemie from birth to D/C. They demonstrate hands on how a preemie feels being pulled from th womb to the noisy, cold world of the DR and NICU. They teach on the use of the bendy bumpers to stabilize and contain the baby in. There is a lot of discussion on positioning of preemies and products to use in that regard, the environment of the isolette where the baby lives. Not a lot of feeding talk. Breastfeeding was mentioned, not the purpose of the program though. It was mentioned in a positvie manner as superior to formula, however again, it was not the focus of the program. It was a 4 hour class and interactive. There were things I definitly learned and found helpful.
