<<I have a client who has been struggling with nursing. Baby is 2 months
old and was recently evaluated by a pediatric dentist. This dentist
thinks the baby has a deficient lower jaw which could be causing the
nursing trouble. Has anyone else encountered this overbite problem in
infants? Please email me privately if you have any suggestions. They have
recently tried some cranio-sacral therapy and it has helped a little.>>

Yes--just this week I had a baby with a lingual frenulum AND a receding
chin. Clipping the tongue helped some, and extremely asymmetric latch
helped some, but mom still has 3/10 pain while nursing on one side, and
1/10 on the other...with or without nipple shield. Yesterday I told her
I am afraid we are now going to have to wait for the baby's mandible to
grow...and if she needs to pump the one side for a while to go ahead. I
often notice that babies who are having trouble with latch have
especially "weak" chins, but thankfully an asymmetric latch often
compensates.
