This is along the lines of what I was thinking. At our WIC office, anyone
can weigh the baby. During our breastfeeding support groups, this is a
popular addition.

I credit our staff with literally saving babies' lives with their
observations and careful attention. Just recently I saw a mother who asked
to weigh her baby at our breastfeeding support group. seh expressed concern
that baby was crying a lot, worried that she "was not getting enough."
Thanks to our attentive staff, we discovered that baby had gained something
like 7 ounces in 30 days. This occurred between baby's 2 week and 2 month
checks. Some of our WIC participants do not have access or do not access
health care on a regular basis. In those cases, WIC operates as a safety
net. We do not have RNs as part of our team; possibly that makes a
difference. While our Peer Counselors are not *expected* to weigh babies,
neither are they *forbidden* from weighing babies.

>How often are weights supposed to be taken in your area? If you can see the
baby looks healthy and thriving, yet the mum is worried she is not taking
enough, would it be possible to let the >mum weigh the baby herself, and
work out from the weight herself that the gain is fine? If she has a
concern then she could ask for more help
