I have a mom I have been phone counseling for several weeks--she lives
about 40 mi away.  She and baby had all the classic symptoms of thrush
for probably several weeks,then she got cracks in her nipples and
developed mastitis.  Mastitis treated with antibiotics, baby and mom
treated with nystatin & nipple cracks with antibiotic cream.  When
nystatin failed to help, she used gentian violet on herself & in baby's
mouth per Jack Newman's protocol.  She treated herself and baby for 5
days.  After 3 days off GV, she's sore again and thinks she sees a couple
white spots in baby's mouth.  How long should she do GV if she starts up
again?  If that doesn't work is her only other option Diflucan?
