Excellent point, Winnie!!  If it  is going to be done -- it should be done 
later rather than sooner....  The  less intervention to the baby right after 
birth, the better.  
 
Y'know, before we do anything to a  baby, we should ask ourselves, "would 
this be done in a normal home  birth?"  
 
And after one of Jennifer's posts, I  think what every mom needs is a 
lactation midwife....which just might get us  away from the medical model of 
breastfeeding.  Though given how my hospital  (unfortunately) views midwives, 
well.....I'm not sure that would  fly.
