Stop & think now for a minute about the people who write these articles claiming that breastfeeding maybe isn't so wonderful.  They are writers.  They earn their money & their reputations by selling their articles.  There isn't much impact these days for another article talking up breastfeeding--it has almost been overdone.  The research has told us that women have gotten the message that "breast is best."  They may not be following it for a variety of reasons, but the message has been spread.  On the other hand, think about that article in The Atlantic a few months back and all the hoopla that caused.  Even got an official response from the AAP!  Now that's a piece of writing!  That got people reading The Atlantic who otherwise never would.  And that's the goal.  That little article is enshrined in that lady's professional portfolio along with all the official responses she received.  Her work has been nationally noted, and her fee for
free-lance writing has just gone up.  She probably got a raise or has the ammunition to demand one at her next review.  The purpose of writing is to have people read it, and writing against breastfeeding will bring far more reponse these days than writing for it.
