Jeannette,
A note on that train of thought. I attended the "Save the Children"
conference on "Newborns..." for LLLI and there were 5 presenters. Dr.
Nancy Sloan got a few peoples attention when she presented on a modified
KMC (Kangaroo Mother Care) program. The presenters seemed kind of suprised
that the improved peri-natal outcomes were attributed largely to trained
women support groups. I'm happy to say that all presenters had as a
priority in decreasing infant mortality, initiating BF in the first hour
after birth. Better results were seen in the programs that had the
mothers/infants seen at day 3/7/and 10. These studies were from
Bangladesh, Pakistan and India.
