We have already discussed the limits of phone help on LACTNET, email would be the same. 

I suspect that the secret with a low dollar "lactation consultation," is that mom is not recieving a service at a "professional standards of care" level. 

From mothers complaints about other LCs, what I have seen is that the LC is cutting costs and not doing things to professional standards, like no weighing, no care plan, no receipt, no HCP report. Also from mothers complaints, I believe this type of thing hurts our profession. 

(Now, don't flame me and talk about how I am just out to make a profit on the backs of poor mothers. Most of us do pro-bono to help those who can't pay. But somehow, somewhere, the LC must make enough money to pay for the professional overhead costs which allows her to do pro-bono.)
