Thankyou to everyone that responded to my question re the bottlefed toddler
requesting milk at night. I passed on the consensus to the mother and she
was glad to hear that her child was not unusual in this regard. Parents are
now bringing the child into bed at first waking and giving her milk and she
is sleeping through to the morning (actually I suspect that she is waking
but only briefly and going back to sleep in the security of her mother's
arms). Mum is relieved and is feeling more rested and baby is happy with the
amended arrangements. The only difficulty is that both parents struggle at
the gut level with the concern that this is a strange thing to do and may
'spoil' the child however, at the brain level they can see what is going on
and will continue in responsive parenting.
