I was fortunate to attend the International KMC Conf in Cape Town a few
months ago. It was well-attended by many well-known researchers from around
the globe. The vast majority of presentations focused on the benefits of
KMC for ALL babies - healthy, term babies and tiny, sick babies hooked up
to all sorts of equipment. (Perhaps we should begin talking about the
disadvantages of going without skin-to-skin contact?) Yes, indeed, KMC is
not "special" - some studies have actually been stopped because the control
group was too disadvantaged to ethically allow the research to continue!
Skin-to-skin is simply where babies expect to be in the first days of life.

In the hospital where I work part time- healthy babies are put into
incubators to "warm them up"! And this is on Nils Bergman's doorstep!
