There was a situation a few years back - discussed on Lactnet so search the Archives - of the mother of an (18 m.o.?) who called the local (NorthEast USA) Info & Referral for the number to La Leche League. Her mistake was in mentioning her concerns (physical sensations because baby nurses differently, etc.) to the I&R operator. The I&R lady called the Child Protective Services on this mom and I believe the baby was actually removed from the home for a while. Eventually, she was returned, but you can imagine the irreparable damage done by the incident.
It did serve to make many more moms become "closet nursers". And yes, the local LLL confirmed that she was normal, and I believe helped her sort out that what she felt was NOT sexual.
The story made national news.
I asked a CPS caseworker in my state (Ariz) and found out they will NOT respond to a report of public nursing, or toddler nursing. Didn't ask about preschool nursing. Maybe I should.

 Some mothers have
even been accused, when they are open, of abusing or neglecting their
children by continuing to nurse (or pushing it pretty close).

I would like to confront this issue in a section of my book, but was
wondering if any of you knew of actual cases where a mother was charged or
accused of such because of nursing.

I would especially be interested in any
cases where the charges were thrown out, but all would be of interest.

Thanks so much for any info you can provide!
