The Code is NOT about individual mother's decisions.

The Code isn't about the mere existence of formula, bottles, and teats -
it's about HOW THE PRODUCTS ARE MARKETED. If they're marketed in a way that
undermines BF, then that's a violation. If they're used in a limited,
therapeutic way when truly necessary, that's a different matter. The Code
includes some examples of legitimate uses for products covered by the Code,
and BFHI Step 6 lists acceptable medical reasons for using formula.

The Code protects ALL mothers, including formula-feeding mothers and mothers
who put their own milk in bottles, from aggressive, unethical marketing
practices. If nothing else, every dollar spent on advertising is one more
dollar a mother will have to spend on the product. If there's less
advertising, there's less expense for the mothers who use the covered
products. Here's the link to the full Code
http://www.who.int/nutrition/publications/code_english.pdf

Of course, if a mother is going to use bottles, or ends up using bottles for
some un-solvable BF problem, it's far better they contain her own milk than
manufactured formula.
