Hi all,
I haven't posted a message in many years, just an occassional lurker until returning recently to hospital lactation support. We have a problem in our NICU with neos insisting on large feeding volumes for FT or close to FT newborns, stuck in the NICU for initial resp issues, rule outs , or whatever. Im talking about the 1-3 day old who is well enough to be all po -but Mom's volume isn't there yet and the neo seems to think that the baby needs MORE which is, of course, formula given through a bottle and leads us down the slippery slope.... Is there any data (beyond the data detailing typical volumes for 1-4 day olds) that supports another approach? How is this handled in other NICUs out there?
thank-you!
