Hello Lactnetters,
I met with a new mother today who has 2 2"incisions on each breast from previous surgery to remove fibroadenoma tumors. The incisions are all well away from the areola, in the upper and lower quadrants.

I know from some previous posts in the archives that the removal includes epithelial and connective tissue cells. However, I am trying to rest this woman's fears of inadequacy and answer her technical question of if any ducts had been removed or damaged in the process. She is no longer in the same area of the physicians who assisted her years ago ( 10 years and 7 years ago). I cannot locate enough info in my books to help me describe to her that the ducts are still likely intact or perhaps healed since a good amount of time has passed . She is worried about production and possible blockage. I did not observe any indications of either, but she is early in the postpartum (5 days).

Any references or resources welcomed,

thank you,
