The OB nurses in my hospital used to rotate between L&D, Postpartum and
the Newborn Nursery. I had an RN friend who started lactating as soon as she
began her first rotation in the newborn nursery - also a "longing for a baby"
type. She fortunately didn't have a problem getting pregnant, but by that time
she was a midwife and spent considerably less time holding and cooing over
neonates. She had no issues breastfeeding. I myself have a pituitary adenoma
and had to take Bromocriptine to conceive my first child and some other med
with a similar mechanism of action, and less side effects, to conceive my
second. I had absolutely no problems with milk supply, neither too much nor
too little, with either baby, though I still to this day, six years after weaning
my daughter, feel that familiar, albeit occasional, tingle.
