This is what I (as an MD) would do Admit the child to a hospital and
document the feedings and weighings and the interaction with the mother.
When EVER is this amount of weight loss normal ? There is a big problem
here and we don't know what it is yet. Maybe there is Munchausen by proxy
maybe there is neglect maybe there is an absorbtion problem of the infant,
maybe it is not getting fed as much as the mother says. THis child needs to
be seen much more often than what has happened thus far. I would want to see
this infant at least twice a week if not admitted to the hospital.
