The proper study that the researchers should have done would have been to randomly assign these women to receive supplementation with milk supplements that were "blinded" by being stored in generic containers.  One group would received human donor milk, the other formula.  The criteria for supplementation should have been a 10% weight loss.

That would have been a proper trial and entirely doable with a sample size of 40.  Then they should have implemented a long term follow up of the health effects over the course of years.
