Hi, Laura,
With baby only breastfeeding 1-2 x daily, there should have been some improvement in the bloody stool by cutting down on the breastmilk volume.  This doesn't seem to point to nursing as the culprit.....unless she has pumped herself into oversupply and baby is getting only foremilk, which may cause enough intestinal irritation to produce frank blood.
There's not a lot of research on this topic.  This MD is most likely to take advice from another MD.  Tina Smillie's Breastfeeding Medicine practice is practically next door to Yale.  Kathie Marinelli, who is a neonatologist, is just up the road in Hartford, too.
