Yesterday, a mom and dad came into my office for their two month check up.
One month ago, they called my office IBCLC because their previous
pediatricians attributed the blood in the baby's stool to an "allergy to mother's milk"
and were recommending hypoallergenic formula.

As we always do, we first recommended elimination of all dairy products from
mom's diet.

The blood stopped, the baby grew and thrived and the parents think we're
geniuses. Hmmm . . ., compared to their old docs, we are.

Cow's milk protein in not healthy for humans. As previous posters have
already mentioned, lactose is not the problem. Human infants very often do
poorly with breast milk which contains cow's milk protein. I have seen this far
too many times to doubt it.

Breastfeeding mothers should not drink cow's milk.

By the way, as long as the Chairman of the AAP'S Committee on Nutrition is a
paid consultant to the beef industry and the formula industry, the AAP's
nutritional advice will remain a joke. Dr. Krebs, either break your industry
ties, or please resign. Thanks.

Dr. Schanler, you're no bargain either. As a paid speaker for the formula
industry, your objectivity could certainly be compromised. Am I wrong?

Best,

Jay Gordon, MD, FAAP, IBCLC
