Permission from mom to post.
Call today from mom G1P1 with 5 week old who reports 'right breast milk
supply drying up.' Unable to hand express or pump from that side although
she reports she can get a scant amount out when she herself "sucks on the
breast." Reports baby had been feeding well off that side up until
yesterday. Apparent full milk supply in left breast. Frequent seedy stools
with good growth.
No maternal pain, nor c/o clogged ducts. Mom reports feeling no let-down
now on right side, no audible swallowing; commented that breast is soft and
not at all full/engorged/hard.
Any ideas about what would cause the supply to drop on one side only?
Referred her to an IBCLC in her area...Petaluma, CA w/ potential MD referral
thereafter.
Ideas welcome!
Ann Marie Henninger RN IBCLC
