gluten intolerance or celiac disease can degrade the intestinal wall well before a person develops full blown symptoms. It may be worth taking wheat and other gluten products out of her diet for a couple of weeks to see what happens. I empathize.. cannot eat gluten, dairy, chocolate, coffee, etc etc etc myself.. and now have to remove corn as well. I use different kinds of rice, quinoa, oats (scotch oats), and add malanga to things like potato pancakes to hold them together. When helping others wade through this kind of diet management, I suggest looking at the removal of foods as a temporary thing.. so much more doable then, when looking at it that way. For myself, once I took gluten out of my diet entirely, there was no way I was going back to eating it as I felt so much better, so it hasn't been a real hardship - there are also a lot of gluten free products out there to make it easier (Van's waffles are a great example... )

eggs can also be an offender in GERD according to LLL - http://www.llli.org/llleaderweb/lv/lvfebmar03p12.html

I second probiotics and digestive enzymes.. they can make a world of difference..

Good luck! hard to see our offspring struggle with their babies..
