I agree with the others, helping this mum is a good thing. When it comes to
relactation often health professionals want to decide whether a mother is
"up to it," "able to do it" etc. That's not the job of the health
professional, it's patronising and IMO it also assumes that the professional
can tell who is and is not going to be able to "handle it." Personally, I've
given up trying to predict to myself who is going to be successful in
relactation or adoptive breastfeeding. I've been surprised (both ways) too
many times. So if this mum says she wants to then helping her is the right
thing to do. The question I have is how can you help her? If she is by the
baby's bed all day is she going to be able to pump there? That would make it
easy for her to do (have the pump there and hook it up so she's hands free
and off she goes). Will the hospital be supportive of this?

Anyway
while we were there, it came up that I am an LC, she told me she had tried
to
breastfeed but never could get it right, then asked if she could still
breastfeed. I told her it was definitely possible to start producing milk
again if
we stimulated her breasts with a pump, but I also told her that she should
really think about it, bc its a lot to take on when you are going through so
much.
