I must have missed this post.. It is a very dangerous platform to build
breastfeeding as a cure-all. Just as Ms. Dettwyler stated, there are many
children throughout the world that are exclusively breastfeed yet they die
from a myriad of diseases and conditions. There are way too many
environmental and genetic factors that even human milk can not fight. As a
breastfeeding mother of two, I can think of nothing better to feed a baby
and young child than breastmilk. But as a mother of a diabetic toddler, I
have also learned the hard way, that even if you do breastfeed your baby
they still "might" get sick. There is no 100% guarantee. Promoting human
milk in a positive yet realistic manner is how I hope to make an impact.
