Dear Chao-Huei, It's great to see you back on Lactnet. For those of you who
do not know, Dr. Chen is one of the few strong supporters of breastfeeding
in her country, Taiwan.

I would suggest that the staff ALWAYS focus on latch as the first and more
important tool. Cup feeding is a temporary step, and is not something that
is usually continued for lengthy periods of time in *most* cases. I would
suggest that the staff focus on learning latch, as the primary tool against
problems with cup feeding or any other breastfeeding problem. Always go
back to the primary and best tool, that of good and accurate latch.

I like Diane Wiessinger's description of latch at :

http://www.wiessinger.baka.com/bfing/index.html.

And also Jack Newman MD's description of Latch, with a great line drawing
of same at www.breastfeedingonline.com.

These are the primary tools that anyone should use .....to avoid the
problems you describe.

Kathleen
