If I ever suffer the delusion that I can please all of the people all of
the time, I know a Lactnet post will be the quick cure.

Lara -- I use the "parent-child" metaphor to describe the
legal relationship, and not to suggest comparitive responsibilities to the
human relationship.

Jan -- The notion of disclosure requires that I let Lactnet readers know
that I am on the ILCA Board, if I am going to discuss (brag about, promote,
applaud) ILCA. Similarly, they should know I am not ILCA's lawyer (indeed,
to serve on their Board while serving as their lawyer would be a gross
conflict of interest) when I bloviate on legal and ethical issues.

Marianne -- you and I and everyone can indeed use our own internal "smell
test" to make decisions on ethical matters. Had you been editor-in-chief at
JHL, you'd have made a different call. And that would have been your
prerogative.
