I promise I did search the archives but did not really see what I need.
This baby is the daughter of a friend of mine who is an LC. She was was
born @ 34 weeks weighing 5"1'. She was exclusively breastfed for 8 months.
SHe is now 11 and 1/2 months eats very little solid food and still nursing.
Her hemoglobin is 6.5 today and Hematocrit was 22. Her only symptom has
been slighly pale conjunctiva. SHe is fair skinned. She weighs 16 1/2
pounds. The doctor wants her to cut down on breastmilk and give Fensol
(iron drops) .6ccs THREE times a day. This is totally out of my expertise.
How much does her being 34 wks. affect this? What alternatives to the iron
drops does she have??? Aren't we worried about the absorption of iron in
the breastmilk??
DR.HALE HELP!!!!.... any peds out there?? SHe is giving the drops for now.

Thanks, Patti Carroll,RN, IBCLC former LLLL
