Today I found a flyer in our staff bathroom and in our conference room.
Looked interesting, come to find out it was a conference that was being put
on for the nurses from Meade Johnson. Cheap conference, lunch and "awards"
provided. Took down the flyer to look at it more closely, and on the back of
the flyer it stated "Thank you for your recommendations of the Enfamil Family
of Formulas". I took down all of the flyers I could find, funny, they kept
reappearing.
Had a discussion regarding Baby Friendly, we take little steps at a time. We
have stopped giving the formula gift bags to our breastfeeding moms, come
August we will stop giving them out all together. I was told the OB's are not
in favor of Baby Friendly as they don't want "their patients" pushed or made
to feel guilty. However the pediatricians are all for it! I heard that the
money the formula companies give the hospital, and departments plays a big
part in this. Supposedly, Baby Friendly will market us to a totally different
group, whatever that means. It seems that for whatever positive step we take,
three roadblocks come our way. But, we are the tortoises, and plan on winning
the race, eventually. I learn much about strategy from everyone sharing here.
Thanks to all!
