Massachusetts Breastfeeding Coalition/FormulaDischarge Bags

Should hospitals allow big drug companies into hospital rooms to
market their products to patients? Governor Romney says yes. If you
disagree, please consider signing a petition to support a ban against
marketing
of infant formula by hospitals. About 80% of formula in the US is sold
by
large pharmaceutical companies.

In February, Governor Romney stopped the enactment of public health
regulations that would ban the hospital distribution of formula
company gift bags to new mothers. By refusing to allow these
consensus-based
measures to take effect, Romney put pharmaceutical company profits
above public health.

The regulations do have a second chance, because the Public Health
Council has voted to reconsider them in May despite Romney's desire to
stop them for good. The regulations have nothing to do with a
mother's choice of how to feed her baby; formula would still be
available in
hospitals. They simply address inappropriate marketing of formula by
hospitals.
