Just had to add a word here. A couple of years ago
when I was in grad school, I wnated to ake a women's
studies course and asked if I would be able to bring
my baby (who was due just as the semester was
beginning) to class. I explained that the baby
would be sleeping or nursing etc. etc. She refused,
saying that *I* would be distracted by the baby.
I discussed it with the head of the women's studies
program who said that she couldn't go against what the
professor had said and offered me her office so that
a sitter could watch the baby while I was in class.
When I wrote a letter to the head of the program
I mentioned that a friend of mine had brought her
newborn to a criminology class all semester with
support from the prof. and there were no problems.
The irony of the fact that I was closed out of a
women's studies class because I couldn't bring my
newborn was lost on her!!!
I guess we still have a long way to go.
