Sorry.  One of my more incoherent moments.  I'll try again:

The idea is this.  Hopefully there is an archive of all of the
coomunications that have taken place on this list for the last few years
(at least I understand there is).  If the archive exists then the entire
text can be copied onto a compact disk (CD) and become a database.  This CD
would contain not only all of the messages sent by members of the list but
it would also contains a program which could be used to search the
database.  The program could search titles, subject lines, or text for
keywords and then compile a list of messages related to the topic searched.
You would then be able to read the appropriate messages.
