Yes - and it means things get set in stone.

In the UK, 'eyes and thighs' are just not done!

Vitamin K is given (usually - parents opt in for it, not out) but not
straight after birth, normally.  'Eyes' are never done.

We do other things that might well interfere with a good beginning to
bf, of course - sometimes, mothers are ushered out of the labour ward
and sent to postnatal rather too quickly for comfort, because someone
needs the room. And once on postnatal, the baby will be removed from
mum's arms and put in a crib, unless the hospital is enlightened, or
unless the mother asks not to.

It would be a real challenge to the culture not to weigh in the first
24 hours, but culture can be changed.
