I'm checking in late on this one - there has been low activity on the list
the past few weeks, esp. during ILCA. Imagine my surprise when on the one
day I don't check my e-mail, there has been a lively discussion about
access, safety, and possibly inappropriate forwarding of posts.
From our guidelines, one of the things that stuck with me the most was the
idea that if you couldn't handle the idea of your post appearing on the
front page of the NY Times (we should be so lucky!), you shouldn't post it.
In the electronic communications age, our virtual living room has corners
you will NEVER see, with people you will NEVER meet, and can't be sure you
would want to confide in. This list is not for sharing confidences of the
kind that can't be shared with the world, and never has been. That should
guide all our posts, all the time, and it shouldn't come as a surprise to
anyone who has read the guidelines either.
The listmothers have not reached a consensus on what, if any, new security
measures should be taken. We do appreciate hearing from you (at the
[log in to unmask] address, preferably NOT on the list).
I find it moving to realize how many people rely on the list for support in
what is otherwise a lonely existence as a breastfeeding supporter in a wide
range of environments.

fourth generation same - my children and I would LOVE to get on the OpEd
page of the NY Times at the very least, and for all I know my grandmother
did get her letters printed there as it was her local paper :-)
