It's not that I don't think they shouldn't charge a reasonable fee and I am
not one who wants to 'decide what other people's time is worth'. But $575
for a frenotomy? Even $400 seems far too high for me for such a simple
procedure - laser or scissors...

In today's economy and with the poor compensation from insurance companies
for many treatments that are needed, I understand the need to make money. I
have my own rent to pay and children to feed, professional liability
insurance and car insurance, etc...I have to earn a living too. However,
that does not mean I need to charge an unreasonable fee for my services.

Most of my clients don't have insurance and cannot afford to have treatment
at $400 done to help their child - if they pay that then how do they feed
the family for the rest of the month? It is really sad that they have to be
in this position - and it is WRONG for them to have to be in this position.

So - why cannot practitioners charge a more reasonable fee, or simply do a
sliding scale for those who need services but cannot afford them? While
there are always those who can pay the big bucks...sadly, there are far too
many who cannot.

Just my personal and professional opinions...

Subject: Re: cost of frenotomy office visit

Just to play devil's advocate here. Yes, the doctor's time only takes 15
minutes. But he also pays rent, taxes, insurance, the front desk and the
nurse assistant's salary, the equipment in the office, the cost of
continuing education etc. I have to take my computer in to be looked at.
The cheapest I can find is $75.00. Just to look, not repair. I'm having to
have a frenotomy done by my dentist with a laser to save my teeth! It will
cost me about $200, even with insurance. Sometimes it seems folks want to
decide what other people's time is worth. We all think our time is worth
more. I personally think mothers need compensation - but whose money should
I confiscate to compensate them? I think my compensation in hugs and kisses
is worth something!
