Wendy, let me get this straight, you advocate "cultural sensitivitiy"
towards Jews who perform unnecessary genital mutilation rituals on
unconsenting minors?

Would you have "cultural sensitivity" towards cultures who for thousands of
years have genitally mutilated their girls? Even if you did, the laws of
the U.S.A. prohibit such acts. You cannot tattoo your children, you can't
cut off their body parts even if a medical professional assists you. You
would be arrested. We are quickly moving towards the day this protection
will be extended as an equal right to boys. I would think that
breastfeeding experts would be on the leading edge of this movement.

More and more Jews and others are waking up to the fact that no amount of
soft sell and sensitivity can keep this barbaric ritual in place. Why would
you have to worry about it "being safely over" if there was not grave danger
involved? As health professionals, every lactation consultant knows that we
live in a time of antibiotic resistant infections. Many Jewish (and other)
boys have bled to death from this unnecessary mutilating surgery.
Performing unnecessary surgery of any kind on a child is an assault.

I hope you understand that when I raise my voice to end circumcision of all
children, I do so to protect Jewish boys equally to every other boy and girl
on this planet. Gloria Lemay, Midwifery Educator, Advisory Board Member

Subject: Circumcision and breastfeeding

Before getting into a discussion about the negative effects of circumcision
on breastfeeding, we need a bit of cultural sensitivity here. Most parents
have a choice whether or not to circumcise their babies but for Jewish
parents it is a covenant. There is still a choice - some Jewish parents
refuse to do it, that is their right, but the majority, even the
non-observant, while continuing the practice, get expert guidance on how
this ritual can be done with the minimum of suffering.
