direct measurement of intake if intake is what you want to measure."

Perhaps because the real world and the ideal setting for research are vastly
different.  Perhaps because we know that intake at one feed is not an
accurate indicator of total intake/ 24hrs.  Perhaps because we know that
individual variations in mothers' milk and infants' needs mean that we do
not know how many mls of human milk will be adequate for any given dyad.
Perhaps because what we need to measure is not how many mls (or oz) but
sufficiency.  Perhaps because the very act of observation changes the event.
