Maurenne, I have been involved with testing of the PNS and have worked with
the other pumps used with and with out double pumping for many years. It
appears that mothers are able to establish and maintain a good milk supply
with the Classic (015) and the Lactina Select (016-S) pumps. There has never
been a trial specific for premature baby mothers and pumping with the PNS.
There is a slight difference between the larger pumps and the PNS. I have
had a few moms that did fine with using the PNS that had premie babys, but I
would not recommend it, if they had a choice to get one of the other pumps.
Medela does not recommend the PNS for moms with premature babys nor for
initiating a milk supply. If anyone is interested in doing research, let me
know.
