Hi Lactnetters!

I recently gave a lecture at the monthly lectures for the Gyn/Obs department
of the hospital where I work. This was part of promotionals activities my
head nurse organized for me to let everyone know of my Lactation Consultant
activities.

I was asked to talk about the changes made in breastfeeding practices in the
hospital. At 7 that morning, my head nurse came in my office completely
panicked. She had been at the conference room to check on the equipment, and
found a formula rep by the door serving coffee and donuts to everyone.

It seeems that every second Wednesday, they are the ones paying for the
breakfast. The head of the Gyn/Ob departement said they never listened in on
the lecture and left before the end. Guess what? They sat right in front of
me and listened attentively. After the lecture, they came up to me and
offered me a job lecturing all over the province for them. I politely
declined saying the code of ethics of my profession did not permit it and
that I would never again accept to lecture if they were present. They
replied that I long as I was not paid by them, it should not be a
problem...that it had been done before with LCs. I would never accept! I
even feel bad I went through with it but also felt I would affect my
relationship with this departement right at the beginning of my new job.
What do you all think of this issue...
