Saw this in the 3/7/99 issue of the Jackson Citizen Patriot:

"Q: I may be a strange hairdresser, but I sure don't like to set
a woman's hair while she is busy nursing a three-week-old infant under a
blanket! I opened my own salon last year, and through word-of-mouth I've
built up a clientele of young working mothers who see their children very
little during the week.

They hate to leave them at home on the weekend so they bring toys and coloring books and park the kids in a corner of the salon. That's fine
with me as long as they behave. But now several customers have started brining in nursing babies. It disturbs me to hear guzzling, slurping, and burping
in my upscale beauty salon! So far, I haven't complained to any customers,
but I sure would like to say something! Should I?
-Complaining Carl, Anaheim, CA

A: I know there are dozens of reasons for breast-feeding a newborn-both for
mother and child-but it definitely won't hurt the baby if it receives a bottle
while Mom is getting beautiful. A burping, slurping infant somehow doesn't
add to the ambiance of your beauty parlor. What do you say readers? Let me
know how you feel.
