This is only anecdotal, and I haven't seen anything written about it.

While pregnant with my second child, and still nursing my first child at
least 3-4 times per day, I went into labor at 31 weeks. While I was laying in
the hospital bed and on medication to stop my labor, I hand-expressed to see
what I would get. It looked a whole lot like what I remembered colostrum
looking like from my first child. So, my assumption was that the new baby would
get colostrum if he had been born that day.

When nursing and pregnant at the same time, the mother's body will give
preference to the new baby, at the expense of the older child. I'm pretty sure I
read something like that in "Adventures in Tandem Nursing" by Hilary
Flowers. I don't have a copy on hand to look it up, but if you can get a copy for
the mother to read, it's a wonderful book! (and no, I'm not affliliated with
it in any way!)

There might be more about what happens if a baby is born early in her book,
too, I can't remember right now.

Sincerely,

Shannon Rittenhouse
