I have seen this response several times, in new mom's with history of anxiety
disorders. An anxiety attack, produces shaking, elevated heart rate, profuse
sweating, nausea, they may even complain a chest pain, etc., feeling of
faintness, and extreme panic. Often if they have no history of such a
disorder, even as a nurse, the symptoms can cause great concern. It would
not be unusual to order extensive testing in the hospital just based on
symptoms. In someone that has been previously diagnosed with such a
disorder, you can somewhat anticipate attacks based on whatever is going on.
As you describe the pain, I too would be extremely anxious about feedings. I
would definetly have her follow up with her physician, and with your expert
breastfeeding help, I am sure nipple soreness will improve.
