> Mom with a 6 week old . Mom has had red nipple irritation/rash like
redness since 5 days pp. Nipples were flat, and some of the irritation was
contributed to the shells she was wearing and the shape of the nipple. Baby
seems to have drawn out nipple nicely, along with the shells ( no longer
using) but rash is persistent.

Hi Mirine,
I have learnt to ask from experience, if the mother is sterilizing her
shields, pump equipment etc in chlorine base chemical sterilizing
solutions, as I often find they have a reaction to this. They are always
relieved to find out that they don't need to 'sterilize', just wash in hot
soapy water and rinse. Dry/drain on paper towels, not tea towels etc.
(providing this is an at home situation, not in hospital).

Detergents used for washing bras is another question. Perhaps switch to a
low allergy washing powder. I myself react to 'L_X' soap flakes which we
tell mothers here in Aust to wash their baby clothes in! I though if its
good for baby clothes its good for bras- did I learn the hard way! LOL
Some mum's soak their bras in nappy wash treatments too, so this may be a
cause of the reaction.

A detective's hat is in order to eliminate what it could be. ? hair
conditioner ?perfumes etc etc

If it is dermatitis then a mild steroid cream usually does the trick. She
need to see her local doctor or a dermatologist as previously suggested.
Cheers
