Gloria,
As a visiting nurse in a maternal and childhealth program, this is the kind of
work  I do often. See if this mom can get homecare, a visiting nurse to come
in once a day to change the dressing. We sometimes go into a home twice a day
if the wound is large. The other option is to have the father or some other
person learn to do the wound care daily, someone at the hospital can easily
teach this. Then the visits to the doc can be limited to once weekly. The
hospital may feel it is protecting itself as this should not happen. They did
take the staples out to soon if it was only 3 days. Here in New York City, the
staples usually stay in at least 7 to 10 days. The mom is sent home and
returns a week or so later to the hospital to have the staples removed.
