Does anyone have any references or information on the possible side
effects of giving a 2 month old mineral oil 2xday for 3 days?  I've been
working with a mom for about 10 days now whose 2 month old had begun some
major spitting up.  After brain-storming with mom, suggested she might
cut out the extra iron w/the prenatal vitamines (she doesn't drink
milk, eat cheese, etc.).  She had spoke to her doctor before she saw me
because she was concerned because the baby had not had a bm for 48
hours.  Dr. prescribed mineral oil 2Xday; after 3 days still no bm.  Dr.
then prescribed apple juice 2Xday.  Baby blew out two diapers/day for 2
days.  Dr. also told mother the baby has a hernia and they would "need to
keep an eye on it".  Baby is now extremely fussy, is not sleeping or
eating well (off/on breast).  Screams when passing gas.  Having Mom
keep a close count of diapers.  She is seeing another doctor on Tuesday
(through my referral for a second opinion).  At the 2-month check-up,
baby had doubled his weight but that was before the trouble started.

This is a first-time mom and I really want to help her.  Wish I could
just sprinkle fairy dust from the Lactation Fairy to make everything
better!
