In response to Kathy Bowers question about fluid intake, I wrote an
editorial in JHL (Feb. 2006 vol22#1)about my experience and review of
literature regarding this. The fact is that drinking beyond thirst does not
increase production and in fact has been shown to decrease production.
Additionally, the current trend to push water beyond thirst has been found
to be lacking in scientific validation. Drink to thirst is still the correct
advice for breastfeeding women. Ann Anderson,RN,IBCLC
